Industry Veteran Jim Shubin on Board to Boost CLASS @ ASR’s Debut
Highly-anticipated CLASS @ ASR showcases unique brand list to fashion-forward, boutique buying audience this September

In anticipation of this September’s debut of CLASS @ ASR, Jim Shubin has been brought on to support sales and marketing efforts, retailer outreach and help craft the style and environment of the new event. CLASS @ ASR debuts on September 10-12, 2009 in San Diego, CA staging adjacent to ASR at the San Diego Convention Center.
“The excitement around CLASS @ ASR is building on both the buyer and brand front,” says Andy Tompkins, ASR Group Show Director. “We now see that there is a significant demand for a show that connects boutique fashion and action sports. CLASS @ ASR is designed to do just that and Jim has the perfect experience set to attract new brands and buyers to the launch.”
Shubin, formerly of WeSC and Ezekiel, brings a unique level of experience and relationships to the event. “CLASS @ ASR’s blend of unique label selection and fresh retail base combined with ASR's existing brand mix and huge retail following are a great mix of quality and strength,” says Jim Shubin, consultant. “I am fired up on the enthusiasm the labels have for this show. A new milestone will be set in September.”
Emerging and core crossover fashion and accessory brands are quickly embracing the CLASS @ ASR concept including new brands to the ASR marketplace Lira, Pour La Victoire, Commune and True Love False Idols. These progressive labels join a growing list of brands scheduled to exhibit at the new event including Insight, RVCA, Modern Amusement, Stussy and WeSC. CLASS @ ASR focuses on design and experience during the trade show in a business friendly environment.

“Insight is a lifestyle brand which has very successfully crossed traditional boundaries from core surf/skate accounts, to be completely viable within the street fashion and boutique/fashion-forward accounts across the USA,” explains Jesse Faen, President of Insight. “ASR has been a vital part of Insight's evolution in the States, and it's very reassuring to know key buyers who attend will continue to view our collection, albeit next-door in a new environment. It's all about the product and people involved, and those aspects of Insight are sure to shine during CLASS @ ASR this year.”
The show will attract a different segment of buyer to ASR, along with retailers that previously have supported both CLASS Events and ASR. CLASS @ ASR provides the opportunity for influential surf, skate and street designers to interact directly with premium, upscale fashion and resort boutiques that they don’t normally have access to in the action sports marketplace, revitalizing retail business in a new way.

“CLASS @ ASR will certainly provide us with several solid reasons to attend in September,” says Jessica Grant, Buyer for the Four Seasons Resort in Hualalai. “We are always looking for those crossover brands for our upscale clientele and the CLASS @ ASR show will certainly provide us with that opportunity. Can’t wait!”
