Board-Trac Predicts Men’s Apparel Forecasted to Be Key Driver for Action Sports Specialty Retailers in 2009

Board-Trac, Inc, announced today that its Q4 2008/2009 Business Outlook among Action Sports Specialty Retailers has been published and can found on their website’s e-store at http://www.board-trac.com.
The Specialty Retail study examines business trends among core retailers comparing overall comp store sales and margin trends between 2007 and 2008. The report also includes a closer look at hardgoods, apparel and shoes.
Specialty retailers expect sales to be either flat or see a slight increase in 2009.
41.6% of retail survey participants plan to invest in their businesses by being more aggressive with their advertising, promotions, competitions and in-store programs to help drive sales in 2009.
Among retailers that carry skateboard products, 72% indicated that 1-10% of that mix will be new brands in 2009 in order to differentiate their store brands from their competitors.
In addition, the study addresses what retailers did to be successful in 2008 and what their strategies and business outlook will be in 2009 as well as areas of concern for 2009.
The study also takes a close look at how surf and skateboarding brands fared in 2008.
