MONEY: Connect S.I. Capital Forum Creates Investor Connections

Connect S.I. Capital Forum Creates Investor Connections

Connect S.I. hosted its first capital forum on June 16th, 2009.  The purpose of this forum was to bring together investors and sports-focused companies with the purpose of fostering investment opportunities.

All presenting companies demonstrated a unique market niche, and presentations were down-right professional grade.  Tom Nelms of Loop’d Network knocked it out of the park as he presented very attainable growth plans for Loop’d, certainly one to keep an eye on.  Investors in the audience were impressed, “I thought the event was a terrific showcase for that unique combination of entrepreneurial creativity and passion for outdoor sports…I was there to evaluate new investment opportunities that can scale” said Scott Tierney of Steelpoint Capital Partners, a company invested in H2O Audio, prAna, and an existing relationship with Loop’d.

Marco Thompson, who founded Connect S.I., felt the event was successful and backed that thought up by talking about connections he knows happened.  Two investors contacted Marco directly to facilitate follow up meetings.   It’s rare for investors to disclose their interest in specific companies to conference organizers or the press, because in a way it’s “showing their cards.”   Marco estimates five to ten investment negotiations resulted from the conference.

Looking forward Connect S.I. wants to build a program around the action sports industry that will offer this type of assistance and program during industry tradeshows.  And while this investment roundtable was focused on companies based in San Diego, California future round tables will be open to companies from throughout the country.
