This Week on The Weekly Update: We’re at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado, for Winter X Games 14. Shaun White and Gretchen Bleiler take the gold in men’s and women’s Superpipe, respectively. Both champions (along with the rest of the U.S. Olympic Snowboarding Team) learn valuable strategy from U.S. Snowboarding Halfpipe Coach Bud Keene, who discusses the upcoming 2010 Winter Games. In Slopestyle, Eero Ettala takes top honors on the men’s side as Jenny Jones defends her gold medal among the women. In Big Air, it’s Winter X Games rookie Halldor Helgason winning the gold.
Among the ski elite, France’s Kevin Rolland – the only competitor with three double-flips in one run – wins Superpipe. In the all-new Ski Superpipe High Air event, Aspen local Peter Olenick wins gold – and sets a new World Record – with a flatspin topping out at 24 feet, 11 inches. Bobby Brown makes Winter X Games history as the first skier to win two golds in a single games (Big Air and Slopestyle). And on the women’s side, Jen Hudak scores her first gold medal in Superpipe.
