Life Distribution LLC, announces the acquisition of the Split Clothing brand with plans to relaunch the young men’s collection in spring 2011 and the girl’s collection in fall 2011. This acquisition puts the brand back in the hands of one of the original founders, Dave Patri, President of Life Distribution LLC.

“I’m ecstatic to have the brand under the Life Distribution LLC umbrella,” said Patri. “The brand is as relevant as ever, it always had a ‘push the limits’ quality about it that attracted the forward customer.”          

Split Clothing Brand is internationally recognized as an innovative board-sport lifestyle brand and has pioneered progressive design, by taking inspiration from Split’s skate and surf team riders for more than 20 years. The brand is known for creating high quality clothing, with custom fits and fine attention to detail. Split is currently licensed in Brazil, Canada and Europe.

Split was started in 1988 by design students in San Luis Obispo, California. The original idea was to create something unique. A common bond was built between friends around this premise. Graphics found their way to surfboards, skateboards, ramps and T-shirts. “We skateboarded and surfed constantly, almost got kicked out of school for it,” said Patri.  “We started experimenting with T-shirt designs and shorts to see how contagious the message could be.”

 “Skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, BMX, motocross and music were things that we all enjoyed,” added Patri.

In 1990, still a garage business, the motto was "don't label me.” Not wanting to be pigeon-holed as a “surf” or “skate” company, Split became the first “cross board sport” company.

The Split brand grew with global distribution and became a major label for consumers in the mid 2000’s. The brand identity was updated at this time to establish a strong global brand message that revolved around their skate, surf and musical influences. The brand stayed focused on their skate and surf teams supporting the lifestyle that made the brand potent from the beginning. Known for always changing and staying on top of innovation and creative expression, Split will continue to push the boundaries of board-sport style.
