FILM: Destination 3 Degrees

Stand Up Paddle Feature Film
Destination 3 Degrees Oahu Premiere

The Hawaii Premiere of the first standup paddle film Destination 3 Degrees makes its Oahu Premiere on December 12th at the Waialua Community Center in Haleiwa.  Starring elite paddlers Morgan Hoesterey and Jenny Kalmbach who decide that to bring awareness to the plastic that is starting to liter the Hawaiian Islands they will challenge themselves to  paddle the entire chain of Hawaiian Islands.  This challenge turns into 300 Miles, 3 degrees of latitude, and the adventure of a lifetime.  Directed and produced by Chris Aguilar who will be in attendance at the event, will make this a great evening to celebrate an amazing adventure.
In April 2010, Jenny and Morgan left the big island of Hawaii determined to paddle from there to the northern most island in the chain, Niihau. They did this to raise awareness and support for the Algalita Marine Research Foundation - an organization dedicated to studying the effects of plastics in the ocean. After months of preparing and training, they would not just be tested physically but mentally. The hardest part was the crossing between the night times 16 hour, 70 mile paddle from Oahu to Kauai. The film follows each step of the journey- from camping on Lanai to free diving off the forbidden island of Niihau.
Sunday the Waialua Community Center on the North Shore of Oahu will be filled with the standup paddle community to celebrate the first feature film made on the sport.  Hawaii has strong ties with SUP (standup paddle) from the beginning of its popularity and many are looking forward to its North Shore premiere. Director Chris Aguilar is looking forward to sharing the film back to where the story took place at and share this amazing feat that Jenny and Morgan did.
Tickets are $10 each and available at the door and door open at 6:30 pm with the program starting at 7 pm.  Waterman Titus Kinimaka will be shaping a standup paddle board and donating it to a raffle along with other items taking place this evening.  Snacks will be available for purchase by North Shore’s Universal Juice.
We would like to thank the following sponsors who have made this event possible. Titus Kinimaka, Smartwater, Standup Paddle Magazine, Horney Toad, Universal Juice. Funds raised will go to support the Rell Sunn Bronze Memorial and the Algalita Marine Research Foundation.
