B$Z: Roz Wins Super Pipe at X-Games
Roz Wins Super Pipe at X-Games
With her signature style and sweet smile, Spyder star athlete Roz Groenewoud won her first Winter X Games gold in the women’s Ski SuperPipe at the 2012 X-Games in Park City, UT.
Groenewoud took victory after posting a record high score of 93.66 in her second run, beating out fellow competitors with a massive 14-foot safety grab and a run featuring a 900, back-to-back 540s, a left-side 720 and a switch 540 traveling down the pipe. Her impressive win is even more notable after a broken collarbone last season left the Squamish-resident sidelined from the snow for several months.
As a member of the Canadian national halfpipe team, Groenewoud has been cutting her teeth in the X-Games since 2008, previously winning bronze metals in SuperPipe the past two seasons. She also won the North Face Open in Whistler earlier this year and is proven to be a top contender for victory in the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games.
The 22-year-old freeskier credits her win to Sarah Burke, her fellow teammate and close friend, who passed away earlier this month.
