Press Release from Verde PR
SEATTLE, Wash. – Outdoor Research builds a wide array of technical apparel and sportswear for just about any kind of outdoor climate or situation, but our deepest roots in apparel are in technical shells.
For Spring 2014, the design team at Outdoor Research focused on the shell category, adding and evolving styles to offer an incredibly well-rounded collection with clear product differentiation. Customers can identify exactly the right shell based on activity level, intended use, weather resistance, breathability, weight, feature set and price. The result is a line that is exact in its delineation between styles, and that allows people to hone in on the right product based on a specific set of needs.
Women’s Clairvoyant Jacket – When Outdoor Research chose to build a women’s specific shell out of Gore-Tex’s highly breathable stretch Active Shell fabric, our women’s design team went back to the drawing board to create a unique feminine shell with a silhouette, fabric and features tailored very specifically for gender, yet also a piece that incorporates the best attributes of our award-winning men’s Axiom Jacket. The resulting 11.8-ounce Clairvoyant Jacket – a waterproof hardshell that offers softshell-like performance – is built for highly aerobic endeavors where you need to balance serious weather protection with breathability for activities like alpine climbing, backcountry skiing or anything where you’re moving fast and weight is at a premium. A heathered polyester face fabric melds durability with stretch, supple feel, quiet performance and visual appeal. The Clairvoyant stands apart in its class by being exceptionally light yet offering a more full feature set than most other jackets using Active Shell fabric. While the majority of jackets using Active Shell are extremely pared down, the Clairvoyant remains light yet incorporates two large handwarmer pockets, a Napoleon pocket, adjustable closures on the cuffs, a multi-point adjustable Halo Hood and a drawcord hem. $325.
Helium HD Jacket – When it’s critical to meld light, packable wet-weather protection with more fully featured design, reach for the Helium HD Jacket. At 9.1 ounces, the Helium HD uses the same uber-light Pertex Shield+ fabric as in the trusted Outdoor Research Helium II Jacket, but it adds key features that make it more versatile in a wider range of situations. The Helium HD features the Outdoor Research proprietary adjustable Halo Hood with a moldable wire brim, which adjusts at multiple points to preserve peripheral vision while sealing out nasty weather. It also adds zippered hand pockets, pit zips for ventilation, and adjustable closures on the cuffs. Like it’s lighter weight cousin, it stuffs into its own pocket to yield a highly packable shell. Men’s/women’s specific styles. $199.
Helium Hybrid Jacket – A hybrid-mapped jacket that melds ultralight waterproof protection in critical areas with a more breathable wind-repelling nylon shell everywhere else, the Helium Hybrid jacket excels at fast-and-light assaults on the trail or in the alpine. At 5.7 ounces, it won’t weigh you down and stuffs into the smallest of spaces. But when the weather turns foul, shoulders and a hood built with uber-light Pertex Shield+ fabric offer waterproof-breathable protection. Lightweight nylon ripstop fabric everywhere else blocks wind but maintains excellent breathability on up-tracks in inhospitable places. Details include critically taped seams, a zippered chest pocket that doubles as a stuff sack, elastic cuffs, a moldable wire brim on the hood and a drawcord hem. Men’s/women’s specific styles. $125.
Helium Pants – Inspired by the jacket of the same name, the Helium Pants are 5.9-ounce fully waterproof-breathable rain pants that you’ll forget you have in your pack (or clipped to your harness) until Mother Nature lets loose. Built with super-light Pertex Shield+ fabric, they are fully seam-taped, and feature an elastic waist with a drawcord and ankle zippers. Combine them with the Helium II jacket and you have a full waterproof kit at less than a pound. $119.
Horizon Jacket – The Horizon jacket is a fully waterproof-breathable, seam-taped shell with an impressive array of features for a shell that checks in at such a moderate price. Made with a 2.5-layer nylon fabric that has an impressively soft feel and is quiet on the trail, the Horizon employs the unique Outdoor Research hem-to-pit TorsoFlo zippers for venting, an adjustable Halo Hood with a moldable wire brim that rolls into the collar, two zippered hand pockets and adjustable closures on the cuffs. This jacket rivals others in feature set and feel that cost $100 more. $129.
Circuit Jacket – A durable double-weave softshell, the Circuit jacket hybrid maps two weights of softshell into a design that puts durability where you need it on the shoulders and elbows and greater breathability and dynamic stretch everywhere else, thanks to a lighter-weight, stretchier material. Versatile in design, the Circuit is at home alpine climbing or skiing, but is cross-functional enough for the daily commute. Details include zippered handwarmer pockets, a zippered napoleon pocket on the chest, an internal media pocket with port, DWR coated zippers and adjustable cuff closures. $150.
