Holly Springs, N.C. -- Professional BMX pro rider and five-time X Games Gold Medalist Daniel Dhers, who just won the biggest BMX contest ever in the Caribbean held in Trinidad and Tobago, recently opened up the Daniel Dhers Action Sports Complex, a new 37,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor sports complex in Holly Springs, N.C., just outside of the Research Triangle Park, as part of an effort to make BMX biking and skateboarding more accessible to the masses. The grand opening was held earlier this month.     

“I wouldn’t be where I was today without that community of bikers who helped me when I was starting out,” he said. “I wanted to recreate that experience for young athletes in a way that was affordable and accessible.”

After teaching himself to bike on the streets of Caracas, Venezuela, Dhers moved with his parents to Buenos Aires, Argentina, as a teenager to learn from more experienced riders. In 2006, he came from nowhere to become one of the sport’s top athletes. He has since won five gold medals at the X Games and is internationally recognized for his technical skill in BMX biking.

Dhers said those early experiences made an impression, however. In 2013, he began designing the Daniel Dhers Action Sports Complex in Holly Springs, N.C., as a place where young bikers and skaters could develop their technique. First and foremost, it is a bikers dream, with 20,000 square feet of indoor riding terrain and 17,000 square feet outdoors, plus a pro shop and party room.

Equipment is also available to rent for inexperienced riders who aren’t yet ready to commit to buying a bike of their own. The complex also offers private and group lessons and discounts for members who pay in monthly installments.

“The Daniel Dhers Action Sports Complex is open to riders of all skill levels and experience, whether they’re bringing their own top-of-the-line gear or need to rent a bike for the day,” said Dhers. “Biking has always been a democratic sport at heart, but we want to do everything we can to make sure it stays that way.”
