Foundation Expands Commitment to Survivor Community Through Year-Round Wellness Content and Experiences, Made Possible by The North Face

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) is proud to reaffirm its commitment to reducing the burden of breast cancer and supporting the survivor community with the launch of the Chasing Sunshine Project.

The Chasing Sunshine Project, made possible by The North Face, is a program that provides valuable content and wellness experiences that seek to improve the quality of life of individuals touched by this disease.  It officially launches today with a preview of the powerful and inspiring B4BC documentary film Chasing Sunshine, which follows professional snowboarder Megan Pischke as she embarks on her harrowing journey with breast cancer. In this nine-minute preview of the soon-to-be released feature film, Pischke opens the door on what it really looks like to go through the rigors of cancer treatments and come out on the other side in a rare and very real account that hasn’t been seen before.  In sharing every detail of this personal journey, Megan’s intention is that her story brings hope to others.

“Being so raw and honest feels like the only way to share something as heartbreaking as cancer,” states Megan Pischke.  “Through this film, my hope is that I may inspire and educate others about the possibilities we have today in coping with breast cancer and any of life’s challenges.”

Megan was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2012, ironically just one month after hosting a B4BC surf and wellness retreat for breast cancer survivors.  In the months that followed, Megan invited B4BC to document her experiences with both Western and non-traditional cancer care, including the controversial cold cap therapy, which allowed her to keep her hair despite chemotherapy.

Preview screenings will take place this October as part of the B4BC Check One, Two® Campus Tour with the feature premiere slated for January 21, 2015 during X Games Aspen.

The official trailer is also available for viewing here.

“It takes great courage to reveal your most vulnerable moments to the world and we’re honored that Megan has entrusted B4BC to shine a light on her story,” says Erika Seward, B4BC Executive Director.  “Sadly, there are millions of people walking a similar path and all are deserving to know of the options that exist that may support their healing process.”

In 2015, B4BC will build upon its educational content tailored specifically towards breast cancer patients and survivors as well as host mountain and ocean wellness retreats lead by Megan and her team of facilitators with expertise in massage therapy, yoga, nutritional medicine, life skills coaching, acupuncture, and more.  To date, B4BC has granted over 60 scholarships to attend weekend wellness experiences in Beaver Creek, Colo., Encinitas, Calif., Long Island, NY, Rossland, British Columbia and Yosemite National Park, Calif.
