EVENT: Cartagena Hosts Season Premiere of Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series on Fox Sports 1
Six months after the coronation of Gary Hunt as the 2014 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series champion, a new season touches down in Colombian water with the premiere broadcast airing Monday, June 1 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on FOX Sports 1.
Local legend Orlando Duque is one of 14 cliff divers who will be diving from almost 90 feet in their bid for glory in this first of eight competitions this year. Overall, there are athletes from seven nations who have spent their off-season perfecting their technique. Taking on the ‘brilliant Brit’ Gary Hunt include Russia’s graceful Artem Silchenko, the sport’s figurehead Orlando Duque, Mexico’s Jonathan Paredes, and the American duo of Steven LoBue and David Colturi.
Here is a
preview of what’s to come on FOX Sports 1 all year long:
“This is a homecoming for cliff diving's most famous athlete, Orlando Duque, but that won’t matter to defending champion Gary Hunt,” said FOX Sports 1 host Trace Worthington. “What matters is how all the divers manage the incredible 90-foot drop from the roof of the Convention Center into the waters of Cartagena.”
In the World Series, the sport's best athletes leap aesthetically from almost three times the Olympic height with no protection at all, except their concentration, skill and physical control. In less than three seconds, gravity propels the divers' bodies as they fall the equivalent of eight stories, reaching speeds in excess of 52mph.
Along with Worthington, the show is hosted by 10-meter platform diving Olympic gold medalist David Boudia. Here is the full FOX Sports 1 schedule for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series:
