EVENT: Sierra 4x4 Trails and Ales Event Benefits Tahoe Donner Giving Fund with More Than $2,000
Tahoe Donner teamed up with the Tahoe Donner 4 Wheelers Club to create the Sierra 4x4 Trails and Ales event, an inaugural fundraising affair that took place on Saturday, July 18. The event included kids’ games, a shine-and-show contest, a raffle, a bounce house, cornhole, beer tasting, BBQ and a trail ride the following day. Proceeds from the event benefited the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund, a non-profit program designed to make charitable contributions to benefit the greater Truckee/North Tahoe region in several areas of interest, including health and human services, environment, conservation and animal welfare, education and youth development, and arts and culture.
In total, $2,165 was raised for the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund. “Words cannot express how appreciative we are to both the Tahoe Donner 4 Wheelers Club and staff at Tahoe Donner,” said Merle Fajans, co-chair of the Tahoe Donner Giving Fund. “The money raised from the Sierra 4x4 Trails and Ales event has exceeded expectations and will help support our local community. We are beyond thankful for their generosity and to all the individuals who came out to support us and the event.”
Approximately 300 people were in attendance, 60 of whom entered their vehicle into the shine-and-show contest, in addition to 28 people who participated in the trail ride the following day. One of the shine-and-show contest categories was the “People's Choice Award.” “Attendees were invited to cast their vote for the 4x4 they liked the best. The voting was so close we had two winners. The first one, as you can imagine, was a totally decked out Jeep,” said Bill Ratcliff, 4 Wheelers Club president. “But the second award was won by a 3-year-old who entered his little ride on an electric, toy Jeep. When he won, he wore a grin that lit up the entire venue.”
Of the 60 vehicles in the running, the following individuals were winners in their respective categories:
Cleanest: Don Gerbi - Truckee, Calif.
Dirtiest: Karl Huie - Tiburon, Calif.
Most Rugged Tires: Erika Scyphers - Sparks, Nev.
Best Rims: Matt Smith - Gardnerville, Nev.
Most Trail Ready: Pat Sullivan - Washoe Valley, Nev.
Best Stock: Todd Freitas - Truckee, Calif.
Best Classic: John Briggs - Kings Beach, Calif.
People's Choice (two winners): Russ Liedholm - Truckee, Calif. and Maddox Colombo (3 years old) - Sacramento, Calif.
“This event was successful because of all the hard work of the club members and Tahoe Donner employees who devoted so much time and effort in helping to plan and organize the event,” said Ratcliff, who added his club saw an increase of 20 new club members as a result of the event. “They all are professional, quality folks who grab the bull by the horns and get things done!”
Sierra 4x4 Trails and Ales was such a success, the team at Tahoe Donner and the 4 Wheelers Club plan to host the event again next summer.
