B$Z: StokesMe September Kicks off to Raise Funds for Humanitarian Organizations

Today marks the start of the 2015 StokesMe fundraising initiative put on by the SIMA Humanitarian Fund. Surf brands, athletes, retailers, consumers and StokesMe beneficiaries are working together to do the most good with the goal of raising more than $100,000 for 15 surf-related organizations focused on improving the quality of life, health and/or welfare of people around the world.

In its fourth year, StokesMe is hosting a retail Add-A-Buck program, the second annual StokesMe Bowl-A-Rama and is pleased to announce the launch of the StokesMe Volunteer Corps. All funds raised will go to the 2015 SIMA Humanitarian Fund beneficiaries.

Some of the best surf industry retail stores in the country were hand-selected to participate in StokesMe’s Add-A-Buck program by the SIMA Humanitarian Fund Board of Directors. This year, 12 retailers are implementing the initiative in 57 separate doors.

Participating retailers include: Hansen’s, Huntington Surf & Sport, Jack’s Surfboards, Maui Nix, Rip Curl Surf Centers, South Coast Surf Shop, Spyder Surf, Sun Diego, Surf Ride, Surfside Sports, The Curl and WRV. To find the participating retailer closest to you, visit www.stokesme.org/retail.

The StokesMe Bowl-A-Rama will be held September 15th in Costa Mesa, CA during the week of the Hurley Pro and is supported by WSL. This event promises to be a fun way for industry brands and athletes to support StokesMe. The night will feature brands, retailers, pro surfers, and StokesMe beneficiaries bowling competitively for the chance to be named 2015 StokesMe Bowl-A-Rama Champions. New for 2015, a database of volunteer opportunities has been established to support StokesMe and its beneficiaries. Dubbed the StokesMe Volunteer Corps, beneficiary organizations post their needs for volunteers, from surf instructors or graphic artists.
