B$Z: G3 Earns Seven Awards/Accolades for New 2015/16 BC Ski, Board Gear

October 27, 2015

G3, maker of innovative backcountry ski and snowboard equipment, this fall earned seven awards and accolades for its new backcountry ski and snowboard gear leading into the 2015-2016 winter season.

The ION 12 and ION LT 12 ski-touring binding, Synapse 101 W ski, Boundary 100 W ski, Empire Carbon 115 ski and Scapegoat Carbon Splitboard won Editor’s Choice, Skier’s Choice, Gear Guide Select and ISPO Awards from Backcountry, Powder and ISPO, while the Scapegoat Carbon Splitboard was “Teton Tested” by Teton Gravity Research

“We’re constantly working on the sweet spot of balance between performance, weight, and ease of use in our backcountry ski and snowboard gear.  It’s fulfilling when well-respected industry publications recognize G3 for the hard work and effort our team has invested,” said John Pieper, VP of Sales.

In the binding category, the ION continues to earn accolades for its ease of use and performance. Powder Magazine noted how easy it is to step into the ION, while Backcountry said its wide base plate makes it “incredibly secure, with great power transfer.”

This year, there are three ION bindings to choose from. Based on the award-winning ION 12, the ION LT 12 offers the simplicity and light weight of a brakeless design while maintaining the ION’s user-friendly and performance oriented features and benefits. The ION LT 12 weighs just 456 grams per binding, and was created for people pursuing longer ski tours or those concerned about weight. The ISPO Award described it as “the highest performing, most user friendly, and most reliable lightweight tech binding you could ask for,” adding “it defines a new category of ultralight and powerful.” There is also an ION 10 with a 4 to 10 release value.

In the ski category, the new Synapse Carbon 101 W ski took home a coveted Editor’s Choice award from Backcountry Magazine. This lightweight, do-everything ski is as fast on the up as it is performance-driven on the way down. That’s the result of G3’s innovative Carbon Stealth Construction that keeps the weight at a minimum for such a hard-charging ski. Backcountry editors said “despite their lightness, they managed to pounce their way down the slope.”

The Boundary series, which is new for the 2015-2016 season and designed as a ski that can tour or ride lifts, also caught Backcountry editors’ attention. They noted “slight positive camber and early-rise tip and tail are intended for versatility across all conditions.”

Back for another season, the Empire Carbon 115, designed with layers of titanal and carbon-fiber, is still a crowd favorite – the ultimate big mountain-touring ski. Despite its light weight, Backcountry noted that it “holds strong at speed in the steeps.”

New for 2015-2016, the Scapegoat Carbon Splitboard is a directional powder board that is designed to tour exceptionally while providing a stable, maneuverable ride on the down. Backcountry testers praised its design that makes “breaking trail a breeze.”
