EVENT: Five Reasons Why Sea Otter is the Best Bike Event in the World

The 26th annual Subaru Sea Otter Classic powered by SRAM will take place April 14-17, 2016 but we'll be revving up the event much earlier by opening online registration as of November 2, 2015. From its humble beginnings in 1991 to last year's "top that!" extravaganza, Sea Otter has become the go-to event for cyclists worldwide - here are five reasons why:

1.) The Open Road Tour - Join Sea Otter for its newest event, a gravel open road ride! The Open Road Tour will put tires to dirt and asphalt on the surrounding trail and fire road system of the Fort Ord National Monument for a 38-mile recreational ride. Sea Otter's Open Road Tour will share the Saturday morning start with the Gran Fondo and Mountain Bike Tour. Open Road Tour participants can expect hot showers at the finish and a post-ride lunch and beer.

2.) Demo zones - Psst! Didja' hear?! Longtime Sea Otter sponsor SRAM recently rewrote the rules for groupsets when it launched its completely wireless RED eTap system last August. See many buzzed-about developments in Sea Otter's demo zones, which have historically offered the ideal setting for consumers to try products they've only previously read about.

3.) eMTB race - Leave your ego at home and be the first of your friends to take aim at the podium in Sea Otter's eMTB Race. The eMTB Race will be a 60-minute off-road lap race held within the Laguna Seca Recreation Area. The eMTB race will be held on Friday afternoon and will offer age-group categories.

4.) Veterans Program - Peak physical performance is a hallmark of military members who take advantage of racing and riding at Sea Otter to test their mettle. With much gratitude for their military service, Sea Otter is honored to provide a variety of benefits to recovering and retired veterans, active duty personnel, and their families.

5.) Festival and Expo - Stunt shows, kids' races, the latest cycling trends, international food court, and a beer garden give you something to share with your family, friends - even your coworkers, who could use a little fodder for their office gossip.

This is just for starters - we'll be fattening the activity roster with more events as Sea Otter gets closer. Be sure to bookmark and visit often! Or, get up-to-the-minute info through Sea Otter's social media channels:
