B$Z: Petzl Recognized in OUTSIDE’s Best Places to Work 2015

Petzl has been selected as one of OUTSIDE’s Best Places to Work 2015. Each year, OUTSIDE recognizes the top 100 companies in the United States that help their employees strike the ideal balance between work and play. These companies encourage employees to lead an active lifestyle, are eco-conscious, and prioritize giving back to the community. The entire list of winners appears online at

“We are honored to be considered a best place to work by Outside,” said Nazz Kurth, president of Petzl America. "‘Building an outstanding workplace’ is one of our core values, and this award reaffirms that our efforts of continuous improvement are making a difference to our greatest asset, our employees."

“The companies recognized in this year’s Best Places to Work list are the gold standard for stellar work environments that seek to empower their employees both in and out of the office,” said OUTSIDE Online Editor Scott Rosenfield. “The new categories in this year’s list serve to highlight outstanding workplaces in distinctive fields—making it all the easier for our readers to find their dream jobs.”

To find the best places to work in the United States in 2015, OUTSIDE started by creating five company categories that reflect the magazine’s values and focus: Adventure/Travel, Wellness, Culture, Gear, and Media. OUTSIDE then conducted a rigorous vetting process in partnership with the Best Companies Group to assess the policies, practices, and demographics of hundreds of companies. Outside’s Best Places to Work 2015 was driven by employee reviews of their workplaces, taking into account factors like corporate culture, role satisfaction, work environment and overall employee engagement. The Best Places to Work list represents the cream of the crop: companies that are empowering their employees to live bigger, better lives.

Petzl’s North American headquarters is based in Salt Lake City, UT. The family-owned company traces its roots to underground exploration. Founder and world-famous caver Fernand Petzl dedicated his life’s work to enabling and educating people on how to safely access some of the most inaccessible places above and below ground. In 1956, he set a world depth record of -3,681 feet (1,122 meters) in the Gouffre Berger, an extensive cave system near his home in France. Today, the Petzl brand remains a world leader in adventure, exploration, rescue, and work at height, fire and rescue, and tactical equipment and techniques.

In 2014, Petzl opened a 15,000-square-foot world-class technical training center to discuss training and certification standards as well as further educate professionals on the proper application of technical skills. The facility features a 55-foot tall climbing wall with multi-pitch capability, more than 5,000 square feet of exposed structure climbing for tower rescue, and three classrooms capable of accommodating up to 200 people.
