B$Z: G3 Skis, Poles Win Two ISPO Awards in Advance of European Outdoor Trade Show Next Week
January 19, 2016
Award winners are chosen by an international jury, which includes consumers, retailers, product designers and media. Several hundred products vie for ISPO Awards each year.
The G3 FINDr 94 is a light, yet powerful full carbon-fiber ski that features G3’s Flyride Plus technology to increase dampness and improve edge hold in firm conditions, yet simultaneously yield a playful and forgiving design for soft snow. That kind of versatility stems from a unique combination of materials and innovative design.
To dampen the inherent stiffness and chatter found in some carbon-fiber skis, the FINDr uses flexible polyurethane (PU) sidewalls – the same material found in medium hardness skateboard wheels -- to eliminate gaps in edge layup and provide a damp and forgiving feel on the descent. The versatile shape utilizes slight camber underfoot for edge hold, paired with an early rise tip and tail for easy turn initiation.
A poplar/paulownia core balances strength and light weight through materials, then employs a techy 3D milling design to shape the core surface. The result is a thicker channel down the spine for structure, but less material elsewhere to save weight without sacrificing performance. A Titanal alloy plate underfoot provides a light, but exceptionally strong anchor for mounting tech bindings.
The FINDr 94 ideal for ski mountaineering or any situation where versatility paired with light weight is essential. It is also available in 102 and 86 underfoot widths.
The G3 Via Carbon Adjustable Ski Poles were designed from the ground up with every feature a skier might need for ski touring or ski mountaineering. Built with an 18-mm carbon-fiber shaft in the upper section and a 16-mm carbon-fiber shaft in the lower section, the Via Carbon is incredibly stiff, durable and lightweight at just 250 grams per pole. They employ G3’s locking connection system that uses an offset cam for a reliable, secure adjustment with minimal closure pressure.
Bindings and ski boot buckles can be adjusted with ease thanks to the QuickFlick Utility Tab on the grip. The hard plastic eyelet on the QuickFlick Utility Tab also yields an attachment point for drying gloves or attaching tent lines.
G3 made comfort and ergonomics a priority when designing the Via Carbon with features such as a lightweight sidehill grip that offers a lower hand position. The strap is comfortable, adjustable and connected to an innovative clip that makes it easily removable for backcountry skiing or tree skiing.
The FINDr series skis, the Via Carbon Poles, and other new G3 products will also be shown at the SIA ski show in Denver on Jan. 28-31. At SIA, G3 is located at booth 3306.
