Warehouse/Operations Superintendent

I have over 16 years  of experience in distribution and supply operations including  shipping, receiving, logistics, transportation, Six Sigma/Lean philosophies, account management,  and customer service.

Manages 10 supervisors and 5 non-union hourly associates; Drives Continuous Improvement processes; Tracks daily, weekly, and period scorecard for operation productivity and opportunities for improvement; Executes Cost Savings Initiatives utilizing multiple Lean and Six Sigma Process tools including:  Value Stream Mapping events, Root Cause Results Tree processes; Analyzes monthly Profit and Loss reports, reviews 3PL vendor contracts, and monitors inventory demand.  

•	Reduced total cost per case by 6% with a 9% increase in volume; increased productivity by 4% over prior year.

•	Works with corporate Supply Chain on managing processes for seasonal distributions, warehouse selection and reserve slot utilization, new items, and receiving capacity.
•	Human Resource liaison for union workforce; conducts new hire orientations, approves leaves of absences, researches disability claims for Worker’s Comp and Family Medical Leave Act, represents company at unemployment hearings, and addresses payroll issues.
•	Championed productivity increase; hired 20 new employees / placed part-time employees on 5/8 schedules; additional manpower boosted flexibility creating a reduction in labor hours and increasing volume thru put.
•	Holds employees accountable; issues discipline letters for attendance, production standards and other violations.
•	Condensed trailer shipments by 12.5%; increased cube utilization by 23%--saved $238K a period…> $3M annually.
•	Reviews code date reports to ensure product is shipping out in proper sequence; notify Supply Chain if product on hand is past code date and coordinate disposal of product.
•	Reports operational costs and productivity to senior leadership at the end of each period.  
•	Participates in quarterly operation reviews with executive management to present cost savings initiatives, safety incentives, root cause analysis on operational costs and productivity; discuss forecasting for inbound and outbound volume.
•	Corporate Social Responsibility coordinator; transitioned facility to a zero waste operation by increasing recycling guidelines and introducing process to collect compost waste.

Managed 205 Union and non-union personnel; responsible for the shipment of over 40M cases annually to 9 Distribution Centers / 1,000 retail stores throughout the Western United States, Hawaii, Alaska and Canada.  Executed Cost Savings Initiatives utilizing multiple Lean and Six Sigma Process tools including:  Value Stream Mapping events, Root Cause Results Tree processes, 5S housekeeping standard operating procedures and audits.  

•	Managed safety program; created goals, established incentives for the employees...installed a “safety first” attitude.  
•	Achieved safety record with 132 days accident-free…130K hours worked--elevated employee morale to all-time high.
•	Reduced total cost per case by 11% on 28M cases shipped--secured immediate results…saved $1.2M in 7 periods.
•	Managed / created daily operational labor board assignments for 3 departments; reduced overtime by 65% with 7% spike in volume; saved the company over $75,000 in labor costs.
•	Directed loaders to ensure 30+ trailers are completed on-time to meet scheduled pick-up times for third party carriers and Safeway Trucking. 
•	Processed daily and weekly payroll reports to verify employee hours and identify any discrepancies.
•	Proposed cost saving initiatives to reduce facility costs; eliminated third party health & wellness coordinator—took first-aid and CPR courses to absorb roles…trained 10 supervisors on incident reporting…saved company $85,000.
•	Lean Audit coordinator; led team of 25 employees in utilizing 5S and Six Sigma/Lean tools to organize, clean and standardize warehouse facility and document processes--received 98.73%...rated highest in NORCAL Distribution.
•	Conducted work samplings; studied forklift movements to establish realistic expectations; held employees accountable for productivity…increased letdown pallets per hour by 15%.
•	Performed daily audits; verify orders are complete without errors, ensure stores are receiving the correct product, and prevent lost sales.

Operations Supervisor

Supervised 5 customer service representatives; responsible for providing customer and retail support to over 1,000 stores, 9 distribution centers, 31 manufacturing plants, and corporate/backstage contacts.  Resolved issues such as order shortages, emergency/rush orders, missing and late deliveries escalated from customer service group.

•	Acted as liaison with corporate procurement; oversaw special programs, firm distribution orders, inventory issues, and emergency deliveries to the stores.
•	Communicated with third party carriers, Safeway Corporate Traffic, and Division DC’s regarding late and delayed deliveries.
•	Supported various corporate departments (i.e. Deli, Bakery, Meat, Floral, Corporate Brands, etc.) on retail promotions, new items and seasonal distributions.
•	Member of cross-functional team which reduced DHL, UPS, and FedEx costs company-wide…decreased CPS shipping costs by $250K per year.
•	Maintained store transmission schedule for all Divisions; ensured schedule was up-to-date and communicated with Division Master Schedulers regarding any changes.
•	Managed billing for various office functions, such as office supplies, copier, small package courier (i.e. UPS, DHL and FedEx), and cleaning services. 
•	Assisted in implementation of 5S and Lean Distribution; worked with 5S champions in other facilities; designed and procured signage; communicated philosophy to employees; performed audits to ensure 5S guidelines were followed.
