Sarah [Nagashima] Young
Senior Technical Designer
Summary
Sarah (Nagashima) Young is a creative and driven product development professional with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Arkansas. With a major in Human Environmental Sciences and a focus on Apparel Studies, she is an avid learner of anything and everything, especially within the fashion industry.
In her pre-professional life, Sarah was an NCAA All-American gymnast for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Competing all four years of her college career, she helped bring the team to a 5th place finish at the 2009 National Championships and earned 3rd place for her balance beam performance that same year for the first top three finish in Razorback gymnastics history.
During her time as a gymnast, Sarah worked for DareDevil's Activewear, a local gymnastics apparel company based in Bothell, WA. Working on everything from design, manufacturing, and embellishment, she learned the ins and outs of running a small-scale custom sports-apparel company.
Now focused on her post-athletic passions, Sarah has immersed herself in the outdoor and action sports retail industry. Starting out as a sales associate and assistant manager at two local Zumiez stores, she jumped into e-commerce as a copy writer and sample coordinator and then moved over to the private label department as a Technical Designer. After three years of growth, Sarah moved to outdoor company Eddie Bauer as an Assistant Product Developer for almost two years.
With 7+ years as a TD/PD, she is now a Senior Technical Designer for Outdoor Research, a renowned and truly authentic outdoor company. Her career and industry utilize her formal apparel education background as well as her experience with gymnastics apparel to measure, fit, and quality-inspect development samples. Sarah has working experience with guy's, junior's, women's and men's knits, sweaters, and wovens.
Outside of work Sarah enjoys sharing her life with her husband, Gage, working out, going to concerts and comedy shows, watching tv/movies, and any form of art.
