Designer, Bikini Lab, Hobie, and Private Label

I decided I wanted to pursue fashion since I was just ten years old. Ignoring all the comments that I'd change my mind eventually or that it was impossible to be successful in the industry, I still went through with it, and here I am enjoying my first job in the industry. I loved high fashion and mainly focused on that while studying in college, but growing up in California, I have always been interested in the action sports lifestyle. Not too far from that industry is swimwear, which is what I am pursuing today.

Designer for Hobie, Hobie Girls, Bikini Lab and Private Label Juniors. I'm responsible for creating themes, color stories and silhouettes for all brands mentioned. After presenting a story, I sketch all designs. I work with the graphics team on all artwork, whether it's been bought or made from inspiration. The pattern maker and I work together in fit sessions to perfect the in-line styles and review top of production garments before out delivery dates. After patterns are look close to what I would like them to, I review with the PLM coordinator my desired specs and components to organize a cost that is estimated in China where production would be made. I work with the sourcing department to develop strikeoffs and trims with mills in overseas in Asia and to find new vendors that I can work with. 


As an associate designer, I am responsible designing juniors' swimwear. The brands I work on include Hobie Juniors and Hobie Girls. Private labels include Tilly's Full Tilt, JC Penney's Arizona, Macy's Bikini Nation and Dillard's Heart and Harmony. I work with the merchandiser, pattern maker, graphics team and sourcing department. My tasks include using Photoshop and Illustrator to manipulate CADs and prints,creating trim and fabric developments, submitting lab dips, sample and artwork requests, trend research, approving trims and fabrics, sending style developments to sourcing companies, using the NGC system to keep track of styles and codes, creating line sheets for each season, scheduling and attending fit sessions, sending fit samples to quality control, and communicating with all departments and outside companies involved in the design process.


Associate Designer, Hobie and Private Label

As an assistant, I helped the designer with developing trims and fabrics, creating cut tickets for samples, costing, helping with art direction in the graphics department, setting up meetings with art vendors, submitting comments and data into the bill of materials on the NGC server, creating mood boards and cads for presentations and setting up duplicate samples and fabrics. I also helped to design Sperry Top-Sider Men's board shorts and t-shirts.
