My name is Jessica Pawid – 24 years old; a creative, hardworking, and detail oriented associate designer. Sine June of 2014, I have been working on a women's contemporary sportswear line called Blue Pearl by Allen Schwartz. Since it is made in the United States, my job interfaces with in-house patternmakers, cutters, local contractors and wash houses. It definitely is a very hands-on experience that not only involves techpacks, sketches, and concept boards but also taking more control and accountability with samples and the pre-production stage of a product. Before that, I spent three very productive and inspiring years working as part of the men’s denim team at Gap’s 1969 design studio in Downtown Los Angeles (now in New York). Some of my responsibilities included working with the Design Director on seasonal concepts and design development, researching trends online and in stores, creating Bill of Materials and detailed sketches for tech packs, and participating in fit sessions to ensure that the fit and aesthetics of each garment are up to the company’s standards. After spending two years and earning an Associates of Arts Degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, I worked as a design intern for various start up companies around Downtown LA – including Joah Love (childrenswear) and LA Vintage. I also volunteered for fashion shows and events like Fashion’s Night Out. While I’m not designing clothes, I like to keep the creative energy flowing by trying my hand at photography and graphic design; taking inspiration from art, music, culture, and my experiences. I believe that the time I have spent between FIDM and working with both start up and established companies qualifies me to be a very efficient and productive designer. I am excited to learn more and use my skills and combine it with creativity and hardwork to put out product that matches and even exceeds your company’s standards of quality and style.
