Writer and Editor

Twenty years of writing and editing experience, with a background in science, health and wellness and involvement with mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes. Known for acute attention to detail, organization, big-picture thinking and knowing when and how to communicate based on the topic, audience and desired outcome. Empathetic listener, positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.

SherpTek, which designs and manufactures top-tier modular flatbed systems, launched in May 2017. Since just before its official inception, I’ve been involved with nearly every aspect of building, developing and leading the business alongside the founder and CEO.

•  Oversee sales, customer relations, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable and human resources.
•  Manage and oversee numerous aspects of business operations alongside the CEO, including creating policies, procedures and templates for business operations.
•  Review, edit and provide input and feedback as appropriate on important documents including leases, business partnerships and other legal contracts.
•  Assist with logistics and oversight of moving manufacturing business to a new community, which included renting box trucks and arranging for cranes and transportation; packing, loading, unloading and unpacking; cleaning and organizing; and communicating with customers and vendors about delays, changes and new opportunities.
•  Write and produce website content; internal and external communication strategies; SOPs for sales, customer relations and assembly processes; manuals for customers; and presentations.
•  Contrast and compare software for business management and integrate selected software into company systems.
•  Launch and manage social media platforms to strengthen brand, drive engagement and build awareness.
•  Represent company at industry and community events to drive sales, new business partnerships and publicity.
•  Manage purchasing, vendor accounts, business partnerships and other administrative and business development functions.
•  Stay up-to-date on industry – truck, truck camper, overlanding, rv-ing, vanlife, etc. – news and trends.
•  Manufacturing and assembly work, including final detailed installation and inspection prior to customer delivery.

Managing Partner

• Write, edit and proof executive-level communication, grants, online content and websites, newsletters, articles,
technical documents, social media content, speeches, books and résumés.
• Develop and edit media pitches and marketing collateral.

•	Developed and implemented communication strategies to promote the College’s activities to internal and external constituents, maintaining a unified message and voice aligned with branding and style guidelines. 
•	Coordinated communication plan and its execution with the University of Arizona University Relations, University of Arizona Health Sciences and clinical partner, Banner Health.
•	Provided counsel during crises and coordinated crisis communication strategies with University and clinical partner personnel.
•	Managed executive communication and outreach, including the Dean’s  annual State of the College address; regular messages from the Dean; the Dean’s and high-level administrators’ special messages and announcements; and op-eds.
•	Set up social media accounts and provided social media training and advising for the Dean and high-level administrators.
•	Co-led the selection and implementation of an internal communication platform for the College’s 1,200 faculty and staff.

Senior Communications Coordinator

•	Responsible for strategic communication functions of the College of Business Administration, including alumni magazine, college publications and brochures, website content, media relations, social media, and other internal and external communication outlets.
•	Work with webmaster; graphic designers; writers; photographers; vendors; university administration, faculty and staff; alumni; and students to produce content and implement communication strategies that support the college’s mission and brand.
•	Launched and maintain the UNIBusiness Facebook page and Twitter account to engage college audiences and strategically disseminate the college’s messages and brand.
•	Developed communication guidelines to appropriately recognize visitors to the university on behalf of the college.

Communications and Public Relations Manager

•	Wrote and edited copy for news releases, internal newsletters, email alerts, guest editorials, letters, media story pitches, publications, social media posts and websites. 
•	Wrote and implemented strategic communication plans for university departments and special events. 
o	Played a central role in the Dalai Lama’s visit to UNI in May 2010, during which he spoke to two sold-out crowds about the importance of education. Initiated visit request and wrote letter of invitation in February 2007; provided copy for official proposal and participated in its presentation to the Dalai Lama in July 2008; served on executive planning committee; oversaw all internal and external communication, including more than 30 news releases, talking points for key university officials and notification to university programs with connections to China; responsible for all media requests associated with the visit; coordinated a preview for media two weeks prior to the event; managed credentials and media relations during the event as well as provided on-site, day-of oversight; served on task force to monitor relations with Chinese programs and connections, mitigating any potentially negative reactions.
o	Chaired the planning committee for the 2010 Sustainability Forum. Compiled and managed invitation lists and event promotion, wrote speeches, provided talking points, managed event program and the distribution of giveaways that reflected sustainability, coordinated audio-visual needs, and provided on-site, day-of oversight.
•	Provided public relations and communications counsel and planning for university groups and programs. 
•	Revitalized the university’s official Facebook page after two years of inactivity. Provided regular content and updates, expanding from 7,000 fans to 20,000 in less than a year.
•	Established new e-magazine, This is UNI, with a link from the home page. Applied for and received co-op internship — “One of the 20 Best Internships on Campus” — funding for an e-magazine assistant during the 2010-2011 academic year.
•	Updated and provided new content for university style guide.
•	Served as editor for UNI Today, the university’s alumni magazine.

Public Relations Specialist

•	Led communications efforts for 1,000-member Chamber of Commerce in a progressive, university-based community.
•	In charge of copy, layout and editing for monthly newsletter. Redesigned the newsletter for cleaner appearance and more organized structure.
•	Responsible for ensuring website content was up-to-date and user-friendly; provided new, regular content, adding increased value to the chamber members.
•	Wrote and edited documents for other staff, including reports, presentations, and chamber literature that included the Community Reference guide and various brochures and handouts.

Communications Director

•	Covered the Coralville and business beats, reporting on regular public meetings, including Coralville City Council, and business issues in Iowa City, Coralville and surrounding communities.
•	Completed news stories on a variety of topics and under tight deadlines for the largest newspaper in Iowa City. 
•	Conducted research to maintain accuracy and consistency, and to create more robust news stories.
