Social Media Specialist (contract position)

An experienced public relations, social media and book publishing professional, I revel in being the person behind the scenes shining the spotlight on others. I am a seasoned communications professional, who is experienced in writing talking points, press materials, press releases, and fact sheets; managing social media accounts on various social media channels and platforms; event planning and engaging in public relations efforts.

In 2012, I began studying digital film production and am proficient in writing scripts and shooting and editing films of all types and lengths.
 
In addition, I am a photographer whose photos have been published in numerous outlets, including Hispanic Network magazine and the Waterford Foundation's educational materials.

Improve the XpertHR website SEO using blogger outreach, media relations, and reciprocal relationship building with other websites and organizations.

Create a higher profile for XpertHR on social media – Google Plus, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and other appropriate platforms.

Create a social media infrastructure of plans, schedules and monthly reports to promote XpertHR content (webinars, podcasts, articles, and website tools) immediately and that XpertHR staff use with minimal efforts and editing.

Temporary position helping the Waterford Foundation executive team and the Fair Business Committee plan and execute the 2014 Waterford Homes Tour & Crafts Exhibit 
(Waterford Fair).

Duties included:

Event planning for the 71st annual Waterford Homes Tour and Crafts Exhibit

Managing social media for the event before and during the Fair

Updating Fair contact and mailing list in the Sage software system.

Providing customer service to Fair vendors, artisans, and attendees.

Providing administrative support to the Waterford Foundation office staff and Fair committee volunteers as needed.

Fair Administrator  - Waterford Homes Tour and Crafts Exhibit

Public Relations: Created and implemented non-profit's annual communications and public relations plan, focused on federal, agency, peer, donor, media and student audiences. Negotiated with PR vendors. Worked with designers and other freelance staff to develop printed and electronic materials. Acted as photographer to generate images used on website and in printed materials. Represented organization at trade events and conferences. Helped create and promote partnerships with other organizations.

Social Media: Developed the organization’s social media presence.  Edited the organization's blog, wrote blog posts, created content, managed guest blogger outreach and submissions, and grew blog audience.  Increased FC2S's social media presence on appropriate social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram. Shot and edited videos. Maintained the organization's website and improved SEO.

Media Relations: Grew reputation and presence in the media. Developed relationships

Communications Manager (contract position)

•	Social Media: Launched and maintained SHRM's social media campaign through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogger outreach. As deputy editor of the Annual Conference blog in 2009, wrote blog posts, conducted interviews on video and in writing, maintained the blog daily, and reached out to outside organizations for secondary blog content. 

•	Media Relations: Handled heavy volume of inquiries by the media and proactively sought media coverage. Monitored press coverage of SHRM, oversaw department’s media-monitoring software and coordinated regular production of reports about coverage. Created and maintained ongoing productive relationships with members of the media and acted as a media spokesperson for the Society. Planned and managed the press room at select SHRM conferences.

Media and Blogger Relations Specialist

Marketing: Designed weekly SHRMStore marketing e-newsletters, managed customer list, and sent out e-newsletter. Created book store catalog, including writing catalog copy, helping develop product list, and working with art department to design catalog. Managed store’s co-op advertising program, presented store’s advertising programs to book publishing companies, negotiated advertising pricing with advertisers, designed advertisements.

Book Buying: Acted as store book buyer, determined book and accessories stock for the store, researched new and backlist books to evaluate appropriateness for the SHRMStore, and negotiated discount terms. 

Inventory Management: Maintained stock levels, handled special ordering and inventory situations including ordering for conference stores, and managed inventory and buying needs while reconciling with the store’s budget

Retail Operations: Set up book store’s booth at conferences, performed inventory for conferences, supervised temporary employees on 

Book Store Coordinator

Media Relations and Public Relations: General management of publicity program - developed and implemented publicity campaigns for Capital's 10-30 new titles a year and 200 backlist titles including galleys, press releases, press kits, reviews, author appearances and tours, bookstore signings, maintained files, and tracked reviews.

Editorial/ writing: Proofread manuscripts. Wrote publicity materials and book cover copy. Managed slush pile and recommended proposals. Managed Copyright Office applications

Marketing: Amazon.com - input new books and covers and reviews. Wrote catalog copy and marketing material sheets for sales representatives.

Publicity Manager

Editorial: Oversaw all incoming manuscripts: judged applicability to Capital Books' publishing program and manuscript's potential. Participated in editorial meetings and decisions on which manuscripts to publish. Processed every book through the Library of Congress  CIP asystem.

Marketing: Designed brochures and other marketing materials. Managed company's Amazon.com information for each published book. 

Public relations/ Media relations: Assisted publicity manager with publicity campaigns.

Administrative: Acted as executive assistant to publisher.
