My name is Sarah Sommer & I am currently pursuing a position as a packaging & production specialist in the apparel and textile industry. I am a recent graduate of Michigan State University with a BS in Packaging Engineering. Through my packaging education and my internship, I have developed the skills necessary to make me an asset in any fast paced work environment. 

While working for Tyson Foods I was essentially given the responsibilities of an entry level engineer. Some of my most notable successes during my internship were:

 - Helped design, source, and implement manufacturable packaging innovations across multiple brands and sales channels
- Traveled extensively to co-packing facilities to oversee start ups of new product manufacturing lines
- Working cohesively with marketing, procurement, and sales to keep to project timelines and target costs  
- Developing expertise in writing and updating detailed product and package specifications including Bill of Materials and Die Lines

I have worked hard to establish myself personally and professionally as a creative, driven, and organized individual with a goal oriented mindset. I am a team player who takes pride in my excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Quickly gathering information to understand the product and process behind it before suggesting or implementing changes is an integral part of my work style.

- Worked directly with marketing to develop consumer friendly packaging for new products across multiple household brands
- Attended numerous consumer insight groups to receive real time feedback on packaging changes and innovations
- Worked on multiple projects simultaneously at different points in the project pipeline
- Sourced packaging components and raw materials directly from suppliers in cost effective, timely manner
- Worked on multiple projects simultaneously and different places in their respective timelines  
- Traveled extensively to co-packing facilities to oversee the start up of newly implemented primary and secondary packaging
- Wrote and updated in depth packaging specifications including Die Lines and Bill Of Materials
- Constructed prototypes of primary packaging, counter displays, and corrugated cases for a product line completely new to Tyson Foods 
- Supported the redesign of flexible packaging to consolidate shelf presence and promote consistency to consumers


Packaging Engineer (Co-Op)

- Supervised a crew of 5-6 employees every shift
- Quickly and fairly resolved employee conflict
- Strictly adhered to corporate policy to provide a consistent consumer experience


Store Manager

- Spent one month in the United Kingdom traveling to numerous packaging companies gaining unique insight into manufacturing and processes
- Identified differences and similarities between European and American approaches to business and communication 
- Learned firsthand the dynamics of cross cultural marketing and its challenges 
- Completed a project which applied an exclusively European product to an American market through materials and processing innovations
