Designing.

Jason Berg is a Mechanical Engineer with 5 years of experience. This includes 2 years of government funded contract work ranging from ballistics testing (including improvised explosives) to research and development. As well as 3 years in the oil & gas industry as a Mechanical engineer whose responsibilities include generating a concept, doing calculations, 3-D modeling, creating drawings, and making sure the design meets ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and ASME Standards.

I worked very closely with 6 other engineers to design, maintain, and oversee the manufacturing process of various styles and sizes of crude oil and natural gas separators. This includes generating a concept, doing calculations (including FEA), 3D modeling, creating drawings, assuring that the design met customer requirements, meeting with the customer to review the design, and making sure the design meets ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and Standards. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed on various components, and units, using SolidWorks Simulation. I also aided in the transition to a different part number system, inventory system, use of Enterprise PDM (EPDM), as well as the transition from AutoDesk Inventor to SolidWorks.

Mechanical Engineer II

Applied Research Associates is a contracting/consulting firm that works mostly on projects contracted by the government or military.  I worked closely on a variety of projects completing tasks, ranging from designing various test fixtures and project components to performing the test procedures.

I also worked on rapid prototyping (3D printing), data acquisition and machining/manufacturing of test fixtures and project components.  The forms of testing included ballistic projectile tests – spanning an assortment of calibers and velocities.  Explosive (improvised and military issued), material, acoustic, endurance testing were also included in the work I did; as well as finite element analysis and Biomedical testing. I was a member of a team tasked with an evaluation of human analog substitutes used in testing for human injury studies.

Data acquisition was done using a MeDAQ system; a system that can handle 16 channels of data and can be chained together to complete the analysis.  Some tests I performed handled 4 MeDAQ systems chained together creating 64 channels of data collection.

Staff Mechanical Engineer

During my internship, I completed various tests on projects while working closely with the Acoustics Group.  The main project was developing a new form of air purifier.  I worked on an array of tasks, including data acquisition systems and running various tests consisting of prototyping, designing and 3D modeling on projects the group was assigned.

Mechanical Engineer Intern

As an intern in the research and development lab, I helped design, 3D model, and create cycle testers.  The cycle testers tested the endurance of the window shades by raising and lowering them continually for a set period of time.  I also aided in the design, 3-D modeling, and assembly of their infrared ovens.  The infrared ovens tested the integrity of the fabric of the window shades by exposing the inside of the fabric to intense heat (to simulate the heat difference between the outside of shade and the window).
