While my degree is mechanical engineering, my professional experience has provided me the opportunity to use a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines to develop products, improve production, and to build some incredible structures. Designing custom tooling and fixtures is essential for the cutting edge nature of the processes, products, and installations which I have been involved. Besides engineering and managing engineers, my scope of responsibilities has also been to manage QA/QC departments and to supervise on-site fabrication and installation activities. Until recently I have worked for companies supplying material and equipment to the institutional aquarium market. After the initial development of the products and process' comes the product use. Design and construction of a 36' diam. 52' tall cylinder (AquaDom in Berlin), or a 12 meter diam. acrylic sphere 2 km underground (Sudbury Neutrino Observatory) required solid fundamentals along with creative engineering design. While technically stimulating, just as inspiring was managing the teams of designers and onsite technicians. The realization of projects such as these relies on a cohesive team. My being able to assemble and lead such teams to successful results is a source of satisfaction. I am a hands-on engineer with a keen understanding of how to develop products and processes and how to best use those products. I am as comfortable on a factory floor or at job-site as I am giving a boardroom presentation or working at my desk. I can manage a budget as well as a schedule and am particularly adept at design including generation of CAD drawings, structural analysis, managing teams of engineers and designers, then implementing the design into production.
