Mechanical Engineering Intern

• Working with the Department of Ideation & Development (I&D) on authoring over 20 testing experimental protocols and reports to remain in compliance with regulations established by the FDA and CE.

• Working closely with electro-mechanical systems (specifically centrifuge systems) used to perform cellular separation (i.e. apheresis) and therapy on human patients.

• Developing test fixtures and computer/mathematical models for testing and simulating mechanical properties (e.g. natural frequency) of essential system components.

• Implemented electronic data acquisition hardware and software from National Instruments (including some exposure to LabVIEW) to accurately record and analyze testing data from thermal testing of an F-150 differential.

• Reported final findings to the Ford Motor Division to lay the foundation for future testing of differentials.

• Created and reviewed CAD drawings to illustrate manufacturing needs, and the assembly of fluid management systems.

Test and Systems Engineer

Robotic Capsule Colonoscope

• Independently designed and tested several iterations of a robotic device capable of navigating an insufflated human colon for the purpose of diagnosing cancer.

• Developed and executed benchtop traction-control and velocity tests of the device on tissue analogs. 

• Planned and executed weekly action items, and created written and visual documentation (including performance data) for current and future iterations of the device.

Statistical Analysis of Spinal Fusion Procedures

• Sorted and analyzed spinal fusion data obtained via Medtronic’s StealthStation navigational system to investigate the precision of orthopaedic screwdrivers, and improve positive patient outcome.

• Presented final findings to surgical staff at Anschutz Medical Campus, and the Medtronic neurosurgical CTO and research staff.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

• Led groups of 10 or more students (ages 5-16) in camps meant to emphasize the exciting aspects of STEM fields.

• Assisted and led in-class experiments, trips to local geological formations, museums, and research labs located on campus. 

• Created an environment that fostered creative and critical thinking for students, as well as conflict resolution.

• Worked one-on-one with students with physical or mental disabilities (e.g. autism).
