Lead Motion / Multimedia Designer

William Faulkner wrote: “The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life.” 

I am George Van Der Volgen, and I moved from Upstate New York to Louisville, Colorado in search of a better life. 

By trade, I am a Creative Specialist, which simply put means that I wield multimedia like a mad alchemist to create something just right for every project I'm a part of whether I am directing or assisting. My career trajectory has been non-traditional, but it has yielded many rewards in the form of experience and challenge. I do enjoy a good challenge.

While being perpetually concurrent with trends and best practices in design and technology is hard work, I always manage to find time to enjoy life via many outdoor and indoor sports and activities, goofing around with my wife Jenna, adventuring, cooking tasty vittles, reading, gaming, or expanding my mind in some way.

• I deliver multimedia content for courses at Columbia, Purdue, and George Washington University, including content for various other clients. My work is consistently approved with little to no revisions, and because of this I have been given expanded freedom creatively directing certain aspects of projects, as well as other team members.
• I regularly adapt style and technique to achieve results consistent with the goals of individual projects. I employ a host of skills such as: 2D/3D animation and visual effects, compositing, and modeling; Character, symbology and information design; Graphic design, typography, and illustration; Video/audio production and post.

• I contribute to the development of a Colorado based entertainment network that currently airs on Roku.
• Typically, my responsibility is taking projects from concept to completion and/or supplementing existing shows. This includes creative direction, logistics, development, design and full production of multimedia for print, the web, or broadcast.
