Product Developer

Ensure on-time completion of product and manage the calendar and process including quality evaluation, fabric, and trim requirements for each product. Handle all daily communication with oversees vendors. Develop and maintain current WIP reports and BOM’s that result in a daily understanding of each item “in work” with an up-to-date trackable status of each item. Identify materials and construction that supports Designer’s vision and product requirements. Partner with production team to determine the sourcing strategy for the season or program. Participate in sourcing decisions based on volume, technique, fabrication and cost. Establish and maintain fit and construction standards and blocks to ensure brand consistency and quality. Prepare and lead all fittings for samples received. Perform spec review of all received samples for accuracy and consistency. Coordinate all factory communication for the development of prototypes, establish the timeline, raw material management, and approval requirements with the factory. 

Collaborate with the head designer to achieve seasonal calendar initiatives. Oversee each season of clothing from design concept to production approval. Develop and source fabrics, prints, and trims. Create and manage tech packs for each style, including colored up sketches, BOM’s, construction, specs, and graded specs. Negotiate with factory to achieve costs in order to meet target wholesale and gross margin targets, maintain development timelines, and create a visual line plan for each season. Review, fit, comment, and approve each prototype, photo sample, sales sample, and pre-production sample in a timely manner so all calendar deadlines are met. Travel to Asia to go over Proto sample comments to ensure sales samples arrive correctly. Ensure the quality from sampling to production meets the quality standards of Pretty Great. Communicate with the factories daily to make sure they understand what is required of them. Source and research new factories to work with that fit Pretty Great’s standards.

Input detailed construction sketches, measurement specifications, and grade rules for each style to create initial technical packs. Collaborate with design to troubleshoot any development issues. Measure garment samples for accuracy of specifications and construction. Responsible for leading fit sessions to ensure appropriate corrections are made as it relates to construction, specs, pattern shape and quality. Take notes and photos during the fit session and provide detailed comments/technical sketches to factories in a timely manner. Approve all specs and construction from initial prototype through to final production. Work to attain and maintain consistency and excellence in construction throughout the entire fit process, from development to production. Keep tracking reports updated and meet weekly with manager to review workload and ensure samples arrive in a timely manner.

Freelance Technical Designer

Creating initial technical packs, including Illustrator sketches and spec sheets with initial measurements. Fitting all samples and sending comments to the factories, communicating with them to ensure all comments are followed. Keeping a detailed history of all sample development. Attending fit sessions with the customer and making note of any design or fit comments.

Creating tech packs for each style, including fabric details, CADs, and measurements. Scheduling and running fit sessions with live models. Fitting all samples and sending comments to the suppliers. Developing and updating blocks for each season, ensuring continuity over the product range and across all seasons. Creating the sampling schedule and critical path, ensuring all deadlines are met by the suppliers. Analyzing product returns after each season. Adding new styles onto Netsuite for each season and keeping all the information up to date. Creating purchase orders on Netsuite. Travelling to head office in Yorkshire to inspect any new stock and check quality standards. Organizing the arrival of wholesale and photoshoot samples by the given deadline.

Assistant Technical Designer

Communicating daily with factories based in Turkey, Bangladesh, and China. Measuring all fit samples against the previous fit comments. Communicating with factories and merchandisers to maintain critical path dates and organize a fit time with the customer. Attending fit sessions and making note of any design or fit comments. Sending all fit comments to factories and ensuring samples are amended. Managing a Junior Garment Technologist who assists me with admin work and measuring garments. Assisting the Senior Designer by creating initial technical packs, including Illustrator sketches, spec sheets with initial measurements, and CADs.

Measuring and evaluating garment construction based on technical packs. Preparing development samples for fit sessions. Taking notes during the fit sessions of amendments to fit or design. Assisting the materials manager in the set up and organization of the materials library and database.
