Freelance Photographer

My name is Sarah Elisabeth Coleman and I am a fashion photography graduate from Southampton Solent University.

Within the last 10 years I have worked in a number of areas, I began as an admin assistant from a very young age helping my mums work colleagues send out mail shots and completing data entry. I then went on to retail whilst I was studying and for a short while after I graduated. After graduating I became a full time member at GES Water where I was originally a summer temp completing tasks like filing and data entry, when I went full time I was an admin member of the logistics team and an assistant to the Finance Manager, I also worked as an admin assistant and PA at GGR Group. I am now a media and marketing controller at laceys hair and beauty supplies. I am in charge of all our social media content, all of our marketing and design work as well as all in house photography. I am a freelance photographer taking a variety of photographs for different occasions such as weddings, portfolios, website and many more.

 Before working full time I studied at Southampton Solent University in Fashion with Photography. Whilst studying I acquired the love for many types of fashion and photography; within this course I have developed my creative skills. 

 Whilst at university learned about many areas of the fashion industry and develop my knowledge and creativity in topics such as photography, styling, marketing, merchandising, press release, design, editing on different software such as Adobe Photoshop and capture one I also learned about digital photography, art and fashion history. 

 Within all my previous and current work I have had to be well organized and have excellent time management skills, as I need to keep track of all aspects of my work. Working with a large number of people and so many departments you have to be on top of all of your work and keep an accurate and organized way of working so that nothing is missed. It has taught me that if you are organized and on top of everything you have a chance to help others and work as part of a team.

Within my photography work I have been hired for a number of events including 5 weddings, a silver wedding & a 21st birthday party. I have also done a number of beauty shots for make-up artists & Hair design students these include themes such as fantasy and ‘all crimped out’.  I worked on a monthly basis with a local college doing a series of shoots with the level 3 hair design students to help them create their portfolios, I had been asked to come in & shoot 3 looks per student. At the college I used studio equipment & worked with a variety of students & set ups. I had to help them create their look, not one of them have done photo shoots before so I had to help organize them, their models & assist with the emotion within the photographs. I then had to edit the pictures & send them off to be printed for the students. 

Within my studies of fashion photography I created a number of different photographs including still life product shots, beauty, fashion and sports photography. I shot a footwear story on Jelly shoes for a summer magazine article, this included a tub of water some shells and jelly shoes, I loved this shoot and found it interesting working with the footwear and the water. I wished I had an underwater camera because I would have used the sea instead of staging it. My fashion stories have varied from men’s to women’s wear including a shoot on portraits for a fellow student. I enjoyed working with both men and women but found the women’s to be more desirable due to the extreme hair and make up available. 

I have also done a selection of sports photographs that include skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, hockey and football. I found that these shoots have helped me understand the way a body moves, I feel it shows off how someone looks in a natural way and how the clothing will move. I think that doing such a variety of shoots has given me the experience and opportunity to see how all aspects of fashion, clothing, footwear and the human body works.

I am in charge of all the social media content, I am responsible for all aspects of marketing including photography for our own brand - mi salon series plus any events and photo shoots in house. I am responsible for all design work of flyers and posters for salons, these include promotions, window decal and many more. 

 I work as part of a small team in Reading UK it is an exciting and challenging role and I have learnt lots of new skills since starting. 

 I work on excel, sage and Photoshop everyday constantly developing my knowledge.

Social media & marketing controller. In house photographer

I was in charge of looking after our UK accounts, making sure they had all the most recent information and the best possible service. I had to learn about the music industry and about all of the products we sold. 

 I originally started out as the sales and marketing assistant helping the 2 teams with anything they required. This included photo shoots excel spredsheets, taking calls and many more.
