Graduate Research Assistant

•Research for Master’s thesis conducted in collaboration with Kenyon Industries R&D Team. Laboratory experimentation investigated the relationship between antimicrobial concentration, application method, and durability to laundering, aiming to develop a baseline for the more efficient application of silver as an antimicrobial textile finish. 
•Applied three different concentrations of a silver salt antimicrobial to unfinished nylon fabric using pad-dry-cure (Mathis Padder Type HVF and Mathis Continuous Coating Range Type KTF-S) and exhaust (Mathis JFO Venturri Jet Dyer) methodologies. Samples were collected periodically from the exhaust bath to track silver concentration throughout process using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (Shimadzu ICPE 9000). 
•Finished fabric samples underwent one, five, and ten laundering cycles using an Atlas Launderometer (AATCC Test Method 61), and were subsequently tested for antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli using the parallel streak method (AATCC Test Method 147).

•A member of the quality control team testing synthetic fabrics throughout their various stages of dyeing, printing, and finishing for military and consumer application. 
•Collaboration with Product Development and R&D teams on dyeing and coating trials.  
•Conducted AATCC, ASTM, and Federal Test Methods including tensile strength, tear resistance, colorfastness (to laundering, light, water, and perspiration), water repellency, dimensional stability, flammability, stretch and recovery, and abrasion. 
•Tracked physical testing results of various material trials from developmental stages through full production runs

Laboratory Technician

•Instructed undergraduate textile science lab courses ,with the scope of the material including fiber identification, fabric performance and analysis, dyeing, and finishing. Administered grades for written lab reports.

Graduate Teaching Assistant

•Aided in graduate research relevant to undergraduate studies. One project analyzed a protein, aiming to see if it played a role in germ cells that may account for mRNA transcripts of different lengths. Second project looked for potential indicators of fertility by studying gene expression in bull spermatozoa- gene expression levels were measured for differences between low and high fertility bulls. 
•Performed Western Blots, RNA isolation, and gel electrophoresis, and assisted graduate students with cell culture and PCR.
