Hello! I’m Daryn Cazin. I have a BA in English from Mary Baldwin University (formerly Mary Baldwin College) in Staunton, Virginia. My degree gives me excellent communication skills and organizational skills. I’m comfortable with multiple computer types and programs. Mary Baldwin placed an emphasis on women in leadership which gave me the opportunity to hone my skills as a group leader and project manager in and out of the classroom. Studying English as an undergraduate provided me the chance to develop research and communication skills while the very nature of my college experience forced me to become comfortable leading varied groups.
After graduating in June 2014, I spent two months volunteering with Marine Dynamics, Dyer Island Cruises, and the Dyer Island Conservation Trust in Gansbaai, South Africa. While there, I learned about conservation efforts in South Africa and how different companies use eco-tourism to fund conservation projects while also digitizing backlogged data from 2009 until 2013. My hope is to continue to help make scientific studies more accessible to the general public.
Once back in California, I began working as a Deck Girl at Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari. As I progressed within the company, I worked with their media department, reservations department, and as crew and photographer on board the boats. I work with all of the different departments in the company to ensure the passengers have a wonderful experience with the ocean and the boats run as on-time as possible. My long- term goal is to further ocean conservation in our society and create an open dialogue about healthy oceans
