Ed is a respected name in bicycling evolution in San Diego. He has served as a Mayoral Appointee and advisor on active transportation, as well as recently managing the City’s host duties and celebration for the Amgen Tour of California. Ed was at the center of the city's planning and implementation of the bike share system having conducted community outreach, private contract negotiations, station siting and marketing plans, to name a few.
As chairman of the 2016 San Diego local organizing committee and host of the Amgen Tour of California professional cycling race my team contributed to a 40% overall increase in world-wide media impressions. This included traditional and digital media integration on local/national/international levels; broad audience participation or buy-in; and reaching generations of race fans through outreach strategies.
The effort required patience and persistence over a wide-range of contract negotiations (sponsors, partners, vendors, political leadership, et.al); fundraising planning; media communications including metric tracking; partner brand exposure; narrative development, and satisfying varying interests. Through an acquired skill of relationship development, grass-root outreach and strategy implementation we were able to exceed the goals of all involved.
Also, since 2013, I've led the team that launched San Diego's first-ever open streets celebration or Ciclavia. In this event 10,000 locals and visitors participated in the one day transformation of car-free streets into a urban park igniting renewed interest in outdoor activities.
All events since have been the foundation to encourage young to old neighbors in experiencing their surroundings through a new lens, without cars and through active living/healthy habit alternatives.
I'm often asked to speak on professional panels for insight or advice on engaging municipalities, communities, civic organizations, urban developments, schools and more on experiences for increasing healthy and active alternatives in various environments.
