Graphic Designer / Pre-Press

Sally here, located in Long Beach, California.

Most of my design background is in marketing and print production. I currently work as a graphic designer/pre-press at a print shop in Orange County and most of my clients are in the lifestyle and surf/sport industries.

I've loved getting to know the print side of things and I feel very confident in that world, but I am looking to be part of the design conversation again.  

I work with a variety of clientele from the surf and sport industry, to high end beauty companies, to local business owners, and so on. I wear many hats, as I am not only designing print material for multiple clients at a time, I am maintaining my constant print production schedule which averages 20-30 jobs a day. As a graphic designer I consult with new clients as to what kind of artwork they need designed, what the printing options are, and start the quoting process. Once the client and I have a design approved I oversee the printing and finalizing of the job. A few examples of what I have created are stationery, postcards, mailers, invitations, brochures, menus, programs, handbooks, invoice forms, calendars, and much more. I design and organize the installation of window displays for various retail stores, communicating with the client and the installer to ensure the process runs smoothly. As the pre-press vendor I am the point person for various clients.

As Jr. Art Director I managed several employees and assisted and approved of designs. I also was in charge of the design of booklets, building signage, mail chimp headers, animated GIFS, promotional materials, websites, info graphics, E-blasts, presentations, web banners, annual reports, and more. I prioritized jobs according to deadlines and followed each job from beginning to completion. I was the liaison between developers, vendors and clients on new projects and updates. I oversaw the creation of technical scopes and copy-docs for website development. I organized photo/video shoots remotely for overseas clients and managed PR campaigns.

I worked alongside marketing and production managers, senior designers, department heads and vendors. I created a large variety of printed marketing projects as well as Evites and E-blasts, creating many designs a day in order to adhere to deadlines of upcoming events. I took part in the rebranding of the entire company and helped to set up web pages for the website relaunch. For each auction or event I was responsible for creating the marketing materials, from advertisements, invitations, menus, to building signage and more. I developed abilities to implement a cohesive brand strategy, effectively worked in a team situation under pressure of tight deadlines, communicated and worked in a multi-departmental environment, maintained confidentiality while working on private proposals and presentations, and exercised knowledge and appreciation of art history. I revised and redesigned existing catalogues, brochures. invitations, menus, building signage and presentations in a timely matter.

Jr. Graphic Designer, Marketing

I developed and designed weekly safety presentations for a large Mechanical Engineering company with offices throughout the nation. 
I created literature and flyers that were posted throughout the office. I maintained and ordered safety equipment for off-site engineers. I had the opportunity to create an online presentation and testing system for engineers across the country from scratch. I reported to Safety and Human Resource Administrators, but found myself assisting in most departments company-wide.
