My name is Tim Smith and I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in Industrial Design. I recently left my industrial design position at Tilite where I helped design some of the highest quality manual wheelchairs in the world. I was born with a genetic disorder that caused deformation in my hands. I did not let it hinder me in any way but instead made it a gift. As I studied art and industrial design I developed a unique perspective on ergonomics and product design and became a better designer for it.
Building and riding motorcycles since the age of nine has made me develop a very mechanical and logical mindset that can be seen in my work as a designer. I am currently a national record holding powerlifter and I'm searching for a position where I can utilize my knowledge of biomechanics and merge two of my passions in life. Completing a wide variety of projects while in and out of school mixed with my experience at Tilite completing full design processes with both hard and soft goods with new and innovative materials has made me develop a very keen sense of target markets, manufacturing processes and human factors along with extensive skills in sketching, 3D modeling and model building. While I was still in school I had the pleasure of being on a design team that helped Remington Arms start their line of outdoor equipment. This experience with Remington helped me gain valuable real world experience in the field. While working as a designer at Tilite I have been assigned both aesthetic based projects focused on upgrading and maintaining design language with new and innovative materials and engineering centered projects focused on effective material selection and cost reduction.
I believe that my life experiences mixed with my excellent education have caused me to have some out of the ordinary character traits and impressive skills. With my unique outlook on life and design I will be a very hard working, valuable member of your design team eager to work with other designers to make the world a more awesome place.
