Bicycle Mechanic

Duties:
At Drake's Cycles, I work as both mechanic and sales person, though the majority of my time is spent servicing customers' bikes and building new bikes for the floor. Fort Collins boasts some of the country's greatest mountain biking, so we are often working with the newest and nicest full suspension, high-quality wheel builds, hydraulic brake overhauls, etc. At Drake's, I regular service electronic shifting as well as older bikes in the shop for refurbishment.

Duties: As a mechanic, I was responsible for writing estimates/evaluating labor for bicycles dropped off for service. I was also responsible for the timely completion of these repairs in addition to everyday spot labor, (flat tires, broken chains, quick adjustments, etc.). I worked on a wide variety of commuter, competition and vintage bikes ranging from donated bikes to high-end carbon racers and downhill bikes. As our shop is located in a downtown environment, we don't have the opportunity to work on full suspension bikes frequently, but I am comfortable with disc brakes, hydraulic brakes and suspension. Throughout the season, I also work as a sales associate during our slower labor seasons, and am comfortable and up-to-date with the latest in consumer cycling apparel, components and accessories.

Duties: I worked as a member of restaurant team committed to bringing fresh ingredients to customers while also educating about sustainable food practices. Customer service is a top priority at Caseus, and other servers and I did our best to facilitate an all-around wholesome dining experience.

Server

Duties:I facilitated habitat restoration projects in the New Haven area as the leader of a crew of four high school students. Students and I would organize work projects at different schools in an effort to revitalize the abandoned spaces of the city. These projects included the installation of a small vegetable garden, a nature walkway, and many flowers, shrubs and trees.
I also worked as the groundskeeper at the High School during the week.  This involved incredibly varied tasks that included string trimming, fence mending, landscaping work, basic conservation projects and the use of a small tractor with front loader.

Schoolyard Habitat Crew Leader

Duties: Performed general maintenance work on a horse-breeding farm of approximately 150 acres. This included barn chores, light carpentry, horse trail maintenance, and general landscaping. Used string trimmer, large gas wood chipper, mower, and ATV to maintain both the pastures and trails. Worked with horses, young and old, and oversaw birthing of foals. Trained horses in both Western and English styles

Barnhand

Duties: Co-lead volunteer service trips in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. My co-leader and I would lead groups of nine teenage volunteers to portions of the Appalachian Trail that required maintenance. We would then camp for five days and perform basic trail maintenance. Oversaw the construction of milled and natural bog bridges, stone and wood water bars, stone staircases and the general maintenance of eroded sections of the Appalachian Trail. Organized tools, food and camping supplies prior to work, and taught teen volunteers the fundamentals of trail work.
