Purchasing Manager

Responsible for the direction of supply chain services.  This includes direction, management and oversight of the coordination and physical progression of material through the production system, purchasing and procurement, product cost estimation and planning functions.  Reports financial information on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.  Submits capital purchases and significant proposed actions for approval.  Handles special projects as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with Production Control to ensure plans and controls are developed and executed including estimation and pricing functions
• Responsible for the purchasing, procurement and outside vendor functions.
• Drive continuous improvement and operational cost reductions through use of systems, controls and policies.
• Responsible for the establishment and implementation of purchasing policies that are conducive to achieving the company's customer service and financial goals.
• Plans staff size to accomplish normal assignments.  Assists the Operations Director in evaluating the status of production facilities and the need for changes (long or short term) in personnel levels and equipment.
• Plans and carries out a continuous program of operations improvement, modernization and cost reduction/avoidance.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Manage demand planning process including inventory, purchasing and developing long term and short term sales forecasts.  Manage and control inventory levels to achieve sales and turnover objectives for multiple sales channels. Provide actionable sales forecasts and inventory information to all departments in the company to assist in the achievement of sales and profitability goals. Manage warehouse operations to drive quality, service and productivity. This position oversees, make decisions, and set policies for the day-to-day operations for picking and packing, shipping and quality assurance.
• Responsible for all replenishment raw material, primary packaging, secondary packaging, labels and finished goods inventory
• Develop and manage supplier relationships improving communication and processes to reduce lead times and cost
• Review and initiate changes to Bill of Materials for database accuracy and standard costs
• Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, cancellations and new product validation changes
• Analyze and report current, discontinued and excess inventory to our sales team and Senior Management
• Work with the sales team on assortment plans and offerings to retail partners
• Resolve pricing, receiving discrepancies with suppliers and coordinate the variances with accounting
• Recognize and initiate cost saving strategies with current vendors and products
• Responsible for all third party inventory reporting and reconciliation
• Evaluate and improve current warehouse processes to handle a current workflow and continued rapid growth
• Improve and expand layout of the warehouse storage capacity.
• Hire and train a pick/pack personnel to handle and support a multi-channel retail blue print and reduce chargebacks from our customers
• Improve and expand shipping personnel and processes to handle Domestic and International dangerous goods shipments
• Improved monthly inventory process by reducing counting errors and physical adjustments
• Managed an expense budget for all supplies and transportation
• Extensive experience in logistics management domestic and international, including commodity code research and assignment
• Manage and update sales reports, backorder reports, preparation of pack slips for all shipping/receiving and inventory processes
• Responsible for certifying and training of employees on forklift, hand truck, and pallet jack safety and use.
• Certified DG specialist - IATA, and the 49 CFR (DOT).
• Member of the strategic planning and implementation team that sourced NetSuite as the company's new business management system.

Planning/Inventory Manager/ Distribution Center Manager

• Purchase equipment, supplies, services, commodities for new product introduction, Manufacturing, R&D, Rare Reagents, Marketing, QA and IT
• Develop and manage suppliers, New supplier setup including first article samples and price negotiations
