I work in marketing and focus specifically on content, events, and partner management. I am also a public speaker who discusses the importance of personal leadership and its relationship to the skills learned in outdoor education. My experience comes from working with event management and inbound, business-to-consumer marketing with NOLS, Ski The East, and The Movember Foundation. I attended the University of Vermont where I studied Public Communication and was an instructor of new-leader development for the Outing Club.
My extensive background in outdoor education and leadership has allowed me to cultivate excellent interpersonal skills, and has made me an expert in assessing risk by use of adept judgement and decision making skills. This background has also allowed me to develop a strong tolerance for adversity and uncertainty.
I do a great job of balancing professionalism with a charismatic and outgoing personality that favors humor. I tend to earn the respect of those around me through my actions. My analytical skills allow me to excel at visualizing the entire picture, and to separate its various components into manageable pieces in order to best reach the objective. I am a very fun loving person, and take pride in maintaining affability while under pressure.
You can find me in Jackson, WY; usually chasing sunrises in the mountains with a cup of coffee and my snowboard. To learn more about me and my adventures, or about booking me for public speaking engagements, check out theexpeditionjournal.com or @_derekmacdonald on Instagram.
