Started as a retail sales associate in a local mall, at a store called Center City Sports. Spent 5 years working there before the company went of business due to ownership's creative differences. Most of the time, I gripped decks, sold everything from skate shoes to Timberland's, and in the winter time spent most of my time selling snowboard gear.
After Center City Sports went under, I worked for about 6 months at Tilly's in the same mall, as a lead cashier. I left there for Kicks USA, which had bought the Center City Sports location and kept some of the higher management on. I started as a sales associate, but soon became the stock manager and held that position for about a year.
Some time passed; I went away to school for a year in North Jersey, came back home and worked for a lumberyard for about 2 years. Finally, I came back to the industry after a 3 year hiatus, and began working on the Atlantic City Boardwalk as a weekend sales associate for Dean Randazzo's Jersey Devil Surf Shop.
After about 6 months working for Dean, myself and two others were given the keys to the store and became the store managers. We shared the role and bought for the shop for a couple of years, with an annual purchasing budget of $250,000. One of the managers left, giving myself and another, a female, the role to share. She took over all of the women's accounts plus some accessories, and I managed the men's and footwear, plus some surf and skate accessories.
